I have not formed an opinion yet on the proposed property tax increase. The problem I do have at the moment is the massive amount of taxes that are sitting on the Senate's doorstep in the form of Cap & Trade, Health Care, & who knows what else that might be waiting for us. I know we have to make local decisions based on the needs of the community, but when the federal government pushes its presence into our lives through taxes & mandates (ie requiring insurance) then it also intrudes into local decision making such as raising property taxes. A 10¢ increase in the tax rate does not seem to be that much considering the rates we had in previous years, I still feel uneasy about the cumulative effect of local & federal tax increases on all of us.
Still I don't want to ignore the needs of our schools...right now I just need to attend one of the townhall meetings and get more information. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this increase??

Here is an article in the Star Courier that might help in your decision making....me, well, I am still reading and listening to both sides. I will have to hurry up and decide as will all of Crosby voters - Dec 12th is around the corner!
If you have access to the 12-3-09 Star Courier, there is a letter to the editor from Ellen Beck ( a Crosby school teacher) laying out her reasons for supporting the increase.
Please don't be quiet on this issue. We need to hear the pro's & con's and any light you can shed will benefit all those that go to the polls with that information in hand. Don't let the debate be one-sided!!!
